Contribution Rules for Municipal Elections in Ontario

Individuals who reside in Ontario may contribute. Corporations and trade unions may not contribute to a candidate.

The maximum contribution to one candidate is $1,200.

An individual may contribute no more than $5,000 in total to candidates running for the same council.

Municipal election campaign contributions are not tax deductible.
ELECTIONS ONTARIO: WHICH CONTRIBUTION RULES APPLY?
Before supporting Gary’s campaign, please review the municipal contribution rules listed above. An Ontario provincial election follows a different set of campaign finance rules. Gary is running for Town Council, so contributions to his campaign must follow municipal eligibility requirements and limits. Understanding this distinction helps supporters choose the correct guidance before donating.
